Forum One is pleased to host a panel discussion on Social Media for Social Impact on February 4th from 11:30am-1:30pm as part of Social Media Week.

The panel will explore the use of social media in making progress on social causes, and will review case studies, criteria for success and lessons learned from each of the panelists.

Confirmed Panelists:

Connie Chan, Yahoo! / Yahoo! for Good
Connie Chan is manager of Yahoo! for Good, the company’s Social Responsibility department. Connie is responsible for leading Yahoo!’s online cause marketing initiatives and managing social media for Yahoo! Green. Prior to joining Yahoo!, Connie worked at Jumpstart for Young Children and SCORE! Educational Centers. She received her Master’s in education from Stanford University and her Bachelor’s in business administration from the University of Southern California.

 

Amy Skoczlas Cole, eBay
Amy Skoczlas Cole has worked at the nexus of business and sustainability for over 15 years, embedding authentic and strategic corporate responsibility programs into the business operations of dozens of Fortune 500 companies. Today, as the Director of the eBay Green Team, Amy leads eBay’s efforts to engage their 89 million active users in a movement to use products that exist in world, saving consumers money as well as helping protect the planet.  In her role, Amy also serves as on the company’s Sustainability Steering Committee, the executive body empowered by eBay CEO John Donahoe to set and implement eBay’s own operational commitments, including the recently announced commitment to reducing eBay’s greenhouse gas emissions by an ambitious 15% by 2012 over 2008.  Prior to joining eBay in early 2008, Amy was a co-founder and Vice President of Conservation International’s Center for Environmental Leadership in Business.  Her expertise covers a myriad of CSR issues, including greening operations and supply chains, creatively engaging customers and employees in environmental efforts, and partnering effectively with stakeholder communities.

 

Peggy Duvette, WiserEarth
Peggy Duvette, Executive Director of WiserEarth, advocates for building online community capacity in the nonprofit sector. Since 2005, she has managed WiserEarth, an online community space that allows organizations and individuals to connect and collaborate around social and environmental issues. Born and raised in France, Peggy has always believed from a young age that each of us can make a true difference.


 

Susan Tenby, TechSoup
Susan Tenby is the  Online Community Director at San Francisco-based nonprofit TechSoup Global and leads an active community of nonprofit staff and volunteers in Second Life. She founded and manages the Nonprofit Commons in Second Life program, four nonprofits-only islands in Second Life that house over 80 organizations, and hundreds of volunteers, free of charge, to lower the barrier of access to the virtual world. She organizes nonprofits in the virtual world and in other online social networks, across the globe. She speaks regularly at conferences about online communities, online social networks and virtual worlds. She was honored to be invited to testify before the US Congress on Nonprofits and Second Life, by Congressman Markey and was called out by Jon Stewart, on the Daily Show, for her congressional testimony and her cheeky avatar name. Susan is a blogger and writer on Online Community for social change, and is currently writing a book on the topic, to be published in late 2010 by Wiley-Josey Bass. Social Media Week conferences take place simultaneously in multiple cities around the world. The aim of each event is to advance the use and understanding of social media in the corporate, public and non-profit sectors.
